Buyer's Guide · September 2026
Best OKR and Goal-Setting Software
How Sageo's goal tracking compares with Perdoo, Tability, Mooncamp, Weekdone, Profit.co, Cascade, WorkBoard, Rhythms, Betterworks, Lattice, 15Five, Asana, ClickUp, and the retired Microsoft Viva Goals.
The verdict
- Best for goals linked to competencies and reviews
- Sageo, goals connect to the same framework used for reviews and development plans, so growth and performance stay joined up.
- Best for a dedicated OKR motion
- A specialist OKR tool, if company-wide OKRs, alignment trees and check-ins are your primary operating system.
- Best OKRs inside a performance suite
- Leapsome or Lattice, if you want goals bundled with reviews, engagement and 1:1s.
Bottom line. Choose Sageo to keep goals tied to your competency framework and reviews. Choose a dedicated OKR tool if alignment is your whole motion, or Leapsome/Lattice to bundle it with performance.

For founders, CEOs, chiefs of staff, and people leaders at companies of 10 to 1,000 employees who want goals that actually get worked on.
This guide compares OKR and goal-setting only
We compare each product on one thing: its OKR and goal-setting capability. That means how goals are written, how they align to strategy, how progress is tracked and updated, what AI does, how check-ins and reporting work, and how goals connect to people. We do not score performance reviews, 360 feedback, engagement surveys, compensation, or HRIS features here. If you are choosing a full performance management platform, read our companion guide instead: Best Performance Management Software, at sageo.ai/guides/best-performance-management-software.
A note on who wrote this
Sageo publishes this guide. Goal tracking is one part of our product, not the whole of it, and several tools here are deeper OKR platforms than Sageo. We say so plainly. Every competitor figure comes from vendor materials, pricing pages, buyer-reported pricing data, and review sites, as of September 2026. Every Sageo claim comes from sageo.ai. Section 7 covers when you should not choose Sageo for goals.
1. Which OKR and goal-setting software should you choose?
Goal software solves one of two problems. Be honest about which one you have.
Problem one: strategy execution. Leadership sets company objectives and needs every team aligned, measured, and reporting. You want cascading, live data from Jira or Salesforce, confidence scores, and board-ready reports. Dedicated OKR and strategy platforms win here.
Problem two: people growth. Individuals need a small number of goals that tie to how they are expected to grow, and a manager who brings those goals back every month. You want goals linked to development plans, reviews, and 1:1s. Performance platforms win here.
Sageo is built for problem two. Its goals link to development plans and competency frameworks, and come back automatically in every review cycle and monthly 1:1. It does not describe OKR cascading, alignment trees, or automated key results. If you need those, this guide names better options.
Quick picks
| If this is you | Shortlist | Why |
|---|---|---|
| 10 to 1,000 people, goals should drive individual growth, reviewed in 1:1s | Sageo | Goals tied to development plans and frameworks, revisited every cycle and 1:1, one shared record. €6 per seat with reviews included. |
| First time running company OKRs, want coaching | Perdoo, Weekdone | Strategy Map and exec coaching (Perdoo); a human OKR coach for every customer (Weekdone). |
| Small, AI-first team that wants OKRs in minutes | Tability | Plan Score, AI importer, MCP server, from $6 per user. |
| EU company that wants flexible frameworks and EU hosting | Mooncamp | OKR, KPI, Balanced Scorecard, V2MOM, EOS. GDPR, EU data centres. |
| Key results should update themselves from your tools | Rhythms, Profit.co, WorkBoard | Progress from live Jira, Salesforce, HubSpot, and BI data. |
| Leaving Microsoft Viva Goals (retired December 31, 2025) | Rhythms, Mooncamp, Profit.co, Teamflect | Rhythms is built by the Ally.io founder behind Viva Goals. |
| Enterprise strategy office, 1,000+ people | WorkBoard, Cascade, Betterworks | Portfolio, scorecards, and executive rhythms at scale. |
| Your work already lives in Asana or ClickUp | Asana Goals, ClickUp Goals | Goals roll up from tasks and projects. Light on OKR discipline. |
2. What are OKRs and goal-setting?
A goal system is more than a place to type objectives. We assessed every product against the same seven steps.
| # | Step | What good looks like |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Strategy link | Every goal traces to a company priority, mission, or pillar. Orphan goals are visible. |
| 2 | Goal writing | Help writing measurable, outcome-based goals, not task lists. Templates and quality checks. |
| 3 | Alignment | Top-down, bottom-up, and cross-functional links, with a view of the whole tree. |
| 4 | Progress data | Key results that update from the systems where work happens, not from memory. |
| 5 | Check-in rhythm | A light weekly or monthly habit with confidence and blockers. |
| 6 | Reporting and rituals | Dashboards and review packs that make quarterly and monthly reviews faster. |
| 7 | People link | Goals connected to 1:1s, development, and reviews, with a clear stance on pay. |
Five kinds of goal software
| Category | Products | What goals look like |
|---|---|---|
| Dedicated OKR platforms | Perdoo, Tability, Mooncamp, Weekdone | OKRs are the product. Strong on alignment, check-ins, and coaching. |
| Strategy execution platforms | Profit.co, Cascade, WorkBoard, Rhythms | OKRs inside a wider strategy and portfolio system. Deep integrations and executive reporting. |
| Performance suites with goals | Sageo, Betterworks, Lattice, 15Five | Goals feed 1:1s, reviews, and development. |
| Work management tools with goals | Asana, ClickUp | Goals roll up from tasks and projects. Little OKR method. |
| Retired | Microsoft Viva Goals | Shut down December 31, 2025. Customers must migrate. |
3. What seven questions decide your shortlist?
Ask every vendor these. They separate goal theatre from goal systems.
1. Strategy execution or people growth?
Pick the problem first. If it is company strategy, look at dedicated OKR and strategy platforms. If it is individual growth and accountability, look at performance platforms like Sageo, Lattice, and 15Five. Trying to do both in a tool built for one produces stale goals.
2. Will goals trace back to strategy?
Perdoo forces every OKR and KPI to link to a Strategic Pillar. Asana's Strategy Map flags orphaned work. Cascade and Mooncamp support Balanced Scorecard, Hoshin Kanri, and V2MOM above OKRs. Sageo links goals to development plans and competency frameworks rather than to a company strategy map.
3. Who helps people write good goals?
Tability's Plan Score grades focus, clarity, and measurement. Perdoo's Vince coach audits goal clarity. Profit.co has a Quality agent. Asana's Smart Goals checks for vague success criteria. Weekdone and Perdoo also include human coaching.
4. Where does progress data come from?
Manual updates go stale. Rhythms reads progress from live workflow events and asks the owner in Slack when data and stated progress disagree. Profit.co has 100+ integrations. WorkBoard, Mooncamp, Perdoo, and Lattice pull from Jira and Salesforce. ClickUp rolls up from tasks. Sageo tracks status and history manually, with goals revisited in each 1:1 and review.
5. What is the check-in habit?
Look for a light, repeatable rhythm: Perdoo's 5-minute weekly check-in, Weekdone's Plans, Progress, Problems method, Tability's written-reasoning check-ins, or Sageo's monthly 1:1 that brings goals back into the conversation automatically.
6. Do goals touch pay?
WorkBoard deliberately separates OKRs from compensation to encourage stretch goals. Betterworks and Lattice feed goal data into reviews and calibration. Decide your stance before you buy, because the tool will shape behaviour.
7. Is the vendor going to be here?
Microsoft retired Viva Goals on December 31, 2025, after an engineering freeze in December 2024. Ask about roadmap, data export, and what happens if the product is sunset.
4. How much does OKR software cost?
Year-one cost for 50 and 200 users on the tier needed for OKRs with alignment and integrations. Annual list or reported prices. Sageo is priced in euros; dollar equivalents at roughly €1 = $1.17.
How to read this table
Dedicated OKR tools are the cheapest way to run company OKRs, and several have free tiers for tiny teams.
Sageo's €6 includes reviews, 360s, frameworks, development plans, and 1:1s alongside goals. If you only want OKRs, compare it with Tability or Perdoo. If you want goals tied to growth, compare it with Lattice or 15Five.
Work management tools look cheap per seat, but Goals often sits on a higher tier that every seat must buy.

6. How does each OKR and goal-setting tool compare, in depth?
Reminder: OKR and goal-setting only
We compare each product on one thing: its OKR and goal-setting capability, how goals are written, how they align to strategy, how progress is tracked and updated, what AI does, how check-ins and reporting work, and how goals connect to people. We do not score performance reviews, 360 feedback, engagement surveys, compensation, or HRIS features here.
Each profile covers the goals capability on its own terms, then compares it to Sageo at the end. We start with a Sageo profile in the same format so you have a baseline.

7. When is Sageo not the right OKR and goal-setting tool?
Goal tracking is one part of Sageo. For many goal problems, a dedicated tool is the better buy.
- You need company-wide OKRs with cascading and alignment trees. Perdoo, Tability, Mooncamp, Weekdone, or Profit.co.
- Key results must update from Jira, Salesforce, or your warehouse. Rhythms, Profit.co, WorkBoard, Perdoo, or Mooncamp.
- You want AI to write and grade OKRs. Tability, Perdoo, Profit.co, or Rhythms.
- You run Balanced Scorecard, Hoshin Kanri, V2MOM, or EOS. Mooncamp or Cascade.
- You are an enterprise strategy office. WorkBoard, Cascade, or Betterworks.
- Your work already lives in Asana or ClickUp. Start with their goals features.
Where Sageo is the right OKR and goal-setting tool
- Goals should come from development plans and competency frameworks.
- You want goals revisited in every monthly 1:1 and review, automatically.
- Managers and reports should see one shared list, status, and history.
- You want goals, reviews, 360s, and 1:1s at one €6 price.
- You pair Sageo with a dedicated OKR tool for company strategy.
8. What should you ask in an OKR and goal-setting demo?
Ask every vendor these questions and write the answers down.
- Is this built for company strategy execution or individual growth?
- Show me how a team goal links to a company priority. Can I see orphaned goals?
- What helps someone write a measurable key result?
- Which key results update automatically, from which systems, and how often?
- What does a check-in take, and how is confidence captured?
- How do goals appear in 1:1s and reviews?
- Do goals feed pay decisions? Can we keep them separate?
- What does AI draft, and what data does it see?
- What is the price at 50 and 200 users on the tier with integrations?
- How do we export everything if the product is retired?
9. How was this guide researched?
We compiled this guide in September 2026 from vendor materials, pricing pages, buyer-reported pricing data, and review aggregates on G2, Capterra and TrustRadius. We assessed each product only on its OKR and goal-setting capability, against the seven steps in section 2.
We do not score performance reviews, 360 feedback, engagement surveys, compensation, or HRIS features here. If you are choosing a full performance management platform, read our companion guide, Best Performance Management Software, at sageo.ai/guides/best-performance-management-software.

What is the best OKR and goal-setting software?
If you want goals connected to reviews and development, Sageo fits well: goals link to the same competency framework and show up in monthly 1:1s, for EUR 6 per seat. Dedicated OKR tools are better if company-wide OKR alignment is your primary operating model.
What is the difference between OKRs and goals?
OKRs pair an ambitious objective with measurable key results, usually cascaded company-wide each quarter. Goals are broader owned outcomes for an individual or team. Sageo supports owned goals tied to competencies and reviewed in 1:1s.
Should goals connect to performance reviews?
Yes. Goals reviewed only once a year drift. Sageo links goals to the competency framework and surfaces them in monthly 1:1s and the review cycle, so progress is continuous rather than a year-end scramble.
How much does OKR software cost?
Dedicated OKR tools range from roughly $7 to $15 per user per month; performance suites bundle goals at $15 to $20. Sageo includes goals in its EUR 6 per seat all-in price.
