Buyer's Guide · September 2026

Best Employee Survey Software for 2026

An honest guide to the top employee survey and listening tools, Culture Amp, Qualtrics, Perceptyx, Lattice, Leapsome, 15Five, WorkTango, Workleap Officevibe, SurveyMonkey and Sogolytics, compared on price, G2 scores, AI governance and the anonymity threshold that decides whether people tell you the truth, plus where Sageo fits.

The verdict

Best enterprise listening at 1,000+
Qualtrics or Perceptyx, Qualtrics has the widest platform and the largest benchmark set (32 million respondents); Perceptyx has the deepest people science, the best-documented benchmark, and the only public EU AI Act assessment in the batch.
Best survey-plus-performance for mid-market
Leapsome or Lattice, Leapsome posts the highest engagement feature score here (9.1); Lattice is the only tool pairing a published per-seat price with a real, architectural anonymity floor, and it comes with performance built in.
Best immovable anonymity floor
Workleap Officevibe, the one vendor whose minimum group size (3 for scores, 5 for free text) nobody can override, on flat annual pricing, which makes it the strongest trust guarantee in the category.
Best when the real gap is performance, not sentiment
Sageo, not a survey tool: a culture-first performance platform that turns your values into a competency framework and runs calibrated reviews and 1:1s, for EUR 6 per seat. It is what a low survey score usually points to.

Bottom line. Employee survey software has split into three businesses: enterprise listening programmes (Qualtrics, Perceptyx) for 1,000+ on headcount pricing; surveys bundled into a performance or recognition platform (Lattice, Leapsome, 15Five, Culture Amp, WorkTango, Workleap Officevibe) for 50 to 1,000; and general survey tools with employee templates (SurveyMonkey, Sogolytics) priced per creator. The feature comparisons matter less than one number most buyers never ask: the minimum group size before results show, and whether an admin can move it. Only Workleap Officevibe makes that floor immovable. Sageo is not in this market, but it is where a bad survey result usually needs to be fixed.

A people leader comparing employee survey and listening software options

For founders, CEOs, and people leaders at companies of 10 to 1,000 employees choosing a tool to measure engagement and gather honest feedback. "Employee survey software" now spans three different businesses that barely compete with each other, so the first job is knowing which one you actually need, and the second is checking one number most buyers never ask about: how many responses it takes before anyone can see the results.

A note on who wrote this

Sageo publishes this guide, and Sageo is not a survey tool. We build culture-first performance management: competency frameworks, 360 reviews, calibration and 1:1s. We wrote this straight because the honest recommendation here is almost always one of the vendors below, and often that is the whole point: a survey tells you something is wrong, and the fix usually lives in the performance layer, not another survey. Ratings, prices and policies were compiled in September 2026; treat them as directional and confirm before you buy.

1. Which employee survey software should you choose?

Match the tool to your size and to what you are really trying to do:

You are 1,000+ people and want a serious listening programme
Enterprise listening: Qualtrics EmployeeXM for the widest platform and the largest benchmark set, or Perceptyx for the deepest people science and the best-documented benchmark.
You are 100 to 1,000 and want surveys inside a performance platform
Survey-plus-performance suites: Leapsome posts the highest engagement feature score in this batch, Lattice pairs a published per-seat price with a real anonymity floor, and Culture Amp remains the reference brand for measurement.
You are under 100 and want simple, low-friction pulses
Workleap Officevibe on flat annual pricing (and the one immovable anonymity floor here), or 15Five and Lattice on a per-seat plan.
You just need a survey tool, not an employee-experience product
SurveyMonkey Enterprise or Sogolytics: priced per creator, fine for ad hoc surveys, but no benchmarks, no driver analysis, and no anonymity floor.

The one question that changes the answer: will people tell you the truth? A survey is only as honest as employees believe it is anonymous. Four vendors here publish a hard minimum group size; three leave it to an admin; one will lower it to a single respondent on request; and two have no threshold at all. If that number is weak, the data is too, whatever the platform costs.

2. What are the three kinds of employee survey software?

The category has split into three businesses that no longer really compete. Most wasted budget comes from buying one when you needed another.

Enterprise listening programmes
Consultative, research-grade listening for 1,000+ people: validated question science, benchmark sets in the tens of millions of responses, and implementations measured in months. Priced on headcount, quote-only. Qualtrics EmployeeXM, Perceptyx.
Surveys as a module of a performance or recognition platform
Pulse and lifecycle surveys bundled with goals, reviews, 1:1s or recognition, so sentiment connects to the rest of the workflow. Four to sixteen dollars a seat, or a flat annual tier. Lattice, Leapsome, 15Five, Culture Amp, WorkTango, Workleap Officevibe.
Survey tools with employee templates
General-purpose survey builders with an employee-experience layer on top. Priced per creator rather than per employee, and neither appears in G2's Employee Engagement category. SurveyMonkey Enterprise, Sogolytics.

Surveys are becoming a module, not a product

Seven of the ten tools here sell surveys inside a broader platform, and standalone employee-survey software is a shrinking category. That matters for buyers: you are usually choosing a platform and getting surveys, or choosing a survey builder and getting templates. Very few products are still just a great employee survey.

3. How do the employee survey tools compare?

G2 rating with review count, and list pricing, as of the September 2026 research. Pricing bases differ and are not like-for-like: Lattice, 15Five and Culture Amp price per employee seat; Workleap Officevibe charges a flat annual tier; SurveyMonkey charges per survey creator, which is why its number looks far lower. Review pools for WorkTango, Workleap and SurveyMonkey are polluted by merged multi-product listings. Confirm before buying.

Two cautions on the numbers above. G2 review counts are badly polluted by mergers: WorkTango's pool is dominated by its recognition product, Workleap's listings sit under an acquired learning-product slug, and SurveyMonkey's 24,028 reviews cover a general survey tool, not an employee-experience product. And SurveyMonkey and Sogolytics carry no G2 Employee Engagement score at all, because G2 records "not enough data" for that category and every one of its sub-features. That absence is the finding, not a gap in our research.

4. How anonymous are they, really?

This is the most important comparison in the guide, because it is the question a works council, a legal team, or a sceptical employee asks first, and the answers are genuinely different. The "minimum group size" is how many people must respond before results are shown for a team; below it, results are hidden so individuals cannot be identified. A weak or movable threshold quietly tells employees their answers are not safe.

The anonymity threshold, compared
VendorMinimum group sizeCan it be lowered?
Workleap OfficevibeHard 3 for scores, hard 5 for free textNo. No admin override is documented anywhere
LatticeHard floor 3, default 5Yes, by an admin, even while the survey is live
Perceptyx4, published on the vendor FAQNot stated either way
15FiveDefault 5, floor 3; lifecycle surveys have noneYes, by an admin, but not during an active campaign
WorkTangoDefault 5Yes, down to 1, by asking a vendor consultant
Qualtrics EmployeeXMDefault 5Yes, and it can be switched off entirely at brand level
Culture AmpNo platform floor, customer-setEntirely; even the indirect-identification guard has a 'None' option
LeapsomeNo floor; vendor recommends 3Per-survey admin number; docs advise going lower for small teams
SogolyticsNone documentedNot applicable, there is no threshold
SurveyMonkey EnterpriseNone anywhere in the productNot applicable; it advises you to enforce one manually
Minimum group size before results are shown, and whether it can be lowered, from each vendor's own documentation as of September 2026.

Read the second column carefully: only Workleap Officevibe has a floor nobody can move. Lattice has a genuine architectural floor of three but lets an admin change the working threshold mid-survey. Perceptyx publishes the lowest hard number at four. WorkTango will de-anonymise down to a single respondent if you file a support request. Culture Amp and Leapsome treat anonymity as a policy setting rather than an engineering constraint, and two vendors have no threshold at all. An immovable, published floor is the strongest trust signal in this market, and almost nobody offers one.

5. How does each employee survey tool compare, in depth?

Sageo

Sageo's feedback and recognition feed, with value-tagged recognition and audience controls
Sageo is not a survey tool. Its adjacent layer is attributed recognition and feedback tagged to your company values, plus calibrated 360 reviews.

Sageo does not run engagement surveys, and we will not pretend otherwise. It is a culture-first performance platform: it turns your company values into a working competency framework and runs calibrated 360 reviews, monthly 1:1s and development plans. Surveys and Sageo answer different questions. A survey asks, anonymously and at a moment in time, "how do people feel?" Sageo asks, attributably and continuously, "what does good look like here, and is each person getting there?" Most teams eventually need both.

Key features

AI competency framework generated from your company values, level by level

Calibrated 360 reviews with weighted cultural scoring and an immutable audit log

Feedback and recognition tagged to a company value, with audience controls and an anonymity threshold on continuous feedback

Monthly 1:1s, AI development plans, goal tracking and a live org chart

Private-by-design AI

identifiers stripped before any LLM call, and a person approves every AI output.

Best for

Companies of 10 to 1,000 where the real problem a survey would surface is unclear expectations, inconsistent managers, or reviews nobody trusts, rather than a lack of measurement. Not for teams whose only need is an anonymous engagement survey or a benchmark score.

Pricing

€6 per seat per month, every module included, published on the pricing page. Free to start, with your whole team free for 14 days. No survey benchmark corpus, because Sageo is not a survey product.

Why it belongs in this comparison

  • It is the layer a low survey score usually points to: what good looks like per level, and the plan to get there.
  • Its governance muscle (PII stripped before AI, a human approving every output, an audit trail) is exactly what a listening product needs, applied to reviews instead.
  • It pairs cleanly with any survey tool here rather than competing with it.

How it fits with the rest here: use one of the survey tools below to measure sentiment, and use Sageo to act on what the survey reveals. If your engagement score is low because people do not know what is expected of them, no amount of pulsing fixes that, but a competency framework and monthly 1:1s do.

Culture Amp

Culture Amp is the reference brand for employee listening: an employee-experience platform built on industrial-organizational psychology, with Engage, Perform, Develop and People Analytics modules. It is the vendor buyers benchmark everyone else against, and it holds the highest Product Direction score in this batch. The twist in the 2026 data is that its actual scored feature set now sits mid-pack, and the business shows visible strain.

Key features

Science-backed, validated question library for engagement, inclusion, manager effectiveness and lifecycle

People analytics with heatmaps, driver and impact analysis, and turnover modelling

Global benchmarks (Culture Amp cites more than a billion survey responses, though the figure varies across its own pages)

Integrated action planning that routes managers from scores into interventions

AI on Anthropic Claude, with an MCP connector into Claude and ChatGPT shipped in 2026

Best for

Mid-market and enterprise HR teams that want research-grade measurement and board-ready benchmarks. Culture Amp explicitly under-serves the small end: below about 200 employees you get group-only customer success.

Pricing

Quote-only, annual billing, with a Vendr median around $23,000. No public list price, and among the more opaque in this set.

Anonymity

No platform floor at all: the minimum group size is customer-set, and even the indirect-identification protection has a "None" option. Powerful for admins, but it means anonymity is a policy you configure, not a guarantee the platform enforces.

What users say

Praised

  • depth of the analytics engine and benchmark data that helps HR prove programs to executives.

Watch out for

  • opaque pricing, a learning curve without a stats background, comment classification that cannot be disabled, and a poor fit under 200 people.
  • Rated 4.5 on G2 (about 1,617 reviews), with a G2 Employee Engagement feature score of 8.4.

vs Sageo: Complementary, not competing. Culture Amp measures sentiment at research grade; Sageo turns your values into a competency framework and runs the reviews and 1:1s that act on it. Use Culture Amp to measure, Sageo to fix unclear expectations.

Qualtrics EmployeeXM

Qualtrics is the enterprise ceiling for employee listening: the widest platform, the largest benchmark set, and the deepest integrations, sold consultatively to organisations of a thousand people and up. Its EmployeeXM product turns continuous listening into predictive, org-wide analytics, and it carries public-sector credentials most rivals cannot match.

Key features

Refreshed EX benchmarks the vendor says are powered by 32 million respondents across more than a thousand companies

Lifecycle, pulse and ad hoc listening with driver analysis and org-hierarchy reporting

Predictive analytics and text/sentiment analysis at enterprise scale

A DoD Impact Level 4 authorisation, rare among people tools

AI on GPT-4o via Azure; note Qualtrics trains its own models on anonymised customer data

Best for

Enterprises of 1,000+ (about 47% of its reviewers are enterprise) running a serious, well-resourced listening programme with analysts to act on it.

Pricing

Quote-only, priced on employee headcount, with a Vendr median around $30,000 and analysis features often sold as an upsell. Not addressable for small teams.

Anonymity

Default minimum of 5, but it can be switched off entirely at brand level. Enterprise-flexible, but the off-switch is the opposite of an immovable floor.

What users say

Praised

  • platform breadth, benchmark depth, and enterprise-grade security and compliance.

Watch out for

  • cost, implementation measured in months, analysis features sold as add-ons, and self-training on customer data.
  • Rated 4.4 on G2 (463 reviews), with an Employee Engagement feature score of 8.5 and the lowest-but-one Product Direction in the batch.

vs Sageo: Different leagues and different jobs. Qualtrics is an enterprise measurement platform; Sageo is a focused performance layer for 10 to 1,000 people. No real overlap, and a Sageo customer is unlikely to be evaluating Qualtrics until they are well past a thousand people.

Perceptyx

Perceptyx is enterprise people science with the best-documented benchmark in this batch and almost no public review footprint. Where Qualtrics wins on platform, Perceptyx wins on depth: a fully quantified benchmark, a real action layer, and the only downloadable EU AI Act assessment among these ten. It moved into AI-driven learning with its Lyceum acquisition.

Key features

A benchmark set it quantifies precisely

23 million responses, 490 organisations, 113 countries and 749 items.

The People Activation System, pairing listening with a structured action layer

Nine named AI agents on OpenAI, with a published EU AI Act assessment and FedRAMP Moderate

Deep people-science services and consulting alongside the software

Frank about the industry's weak spot

it says post-survey action rates have barely improved in a decade.

Best for

Enterprises of 1,000+ (about 82% of its reviewers are enterprise) that want rigorous people science and evidence that action actually follows the survey.

Pricing

No pricing page at all, no navigation item, and no published deal data: the most opaque vendor here on cost. Expect an enterprise, headcount-based quote.

Anonymity

A hard minimum of 4, published on the vendor FAQ: the lowest published hard floor in the batch, and clearly stated.

What users say

Praised

  • people-science depth, benchmark documentation, and action-completion evidence.

Watch out for

  • opaque pricing, a thin public review base, and enterprise-only positioning.
  • Rated 4.5 on G2 but on only 39 reviews (Employee Engagement score 8.8 on just 25 ratings), so treat the scores as directional.

vs Sageo: No overlap on size or job. Perceptyx is an enterprise listening-and-action programme; Sageo is a performance layer for growth-stage teams. Worth noting that Perceptyx's public EU AI Act assessment is the bar Sageo should aim to meet for European buyers.

Lattice

Lattice is the closest true comparison to Sageo in this batch, and it is the survey vendor that gets almost everything right on paper: a published per-seat price, a genuine hard anonymity floor, and clear AI governance. The irony is that hardly anyone buys Lattice for its surveys; they buy it for performance, and engagement is the module that comes along.

Key features

Engagement and pulse surveys linked to org structure and individual records, with guided action planning

Performance built in

360s, reviews, calibration, goals and 1:1s in one workflow.

AI Engagement Insights on OpenAI, with per-feature admin toggles

A clear commitment that Lattice "has not and will not opt-in" to model training on customer data

MCP integrations listed for Claude, Glean and OpenAI

Best for

Mid-market teams of 50 to 1,000 (about 75% of reviewers are mid-market) that want engagement and performance in one clean workflow, and that value transparency on both price and privacy.

Pricing

$4 per seat per month for Engagement, with a $4,000 minimum annual agreement that binds until roughly 83 seats. Vendr median around $30,000 across the platform. The minimum is the main barrier for smaller teams.

Anonymity

A real architectural floor of 3, default 5, but an admin can change the working threshold "at any point, even while the survey is active or after it has ended." The floor is solid; the movability is the caveat.

What users say

Praised

  • a clean interface that consolidates engagement, goals and performance.

Watch out for

  • the $4,000 minimum for small teams, and that its own HRIS is being sunset.
  • Rated 4.6 on G2 (4,124 reviews), with the second-highest Employee Engagement feature score in the batch at 8.8 on 1,719 ratings.

vs Sageo: The most direct comparison here on the performance side. Lattice is broader and leans toward an HR suite; Sageo is culture-first, generates the framework from your values, weights culture into scores, and prices flatter with no minimum. Choose Lattice for engagement-plus-performance breadth, Sageo for a fast, focused path from values to calibrated reviews.

Leapsome

Leapsome posts the best scorecard in this batch and the weakest survey privacy architecture. It wins every scored G2 engagement sub-feature against Culture Amp and holds the highest category score here, while its own documentation treats the anonymity threshold as a number to lower for small teams. It has expanded aggressively into a full HR platform with HRIS, payroll and an ATS.

Key features

Engagement surveys with strong scored feature coverage across the G2 engagement set

A broad platform

reviews, goals, 1:1s, learning, plus newer HRIS, payroll and ATS modules.

Five named AI agents plus an MCP connector

Highest G2 Employee Engagement feature score in this batch at 9.1

Best for

Mid-market teams, skewing a little smaller, that want the widest feature set and are comfortable configuring their own governance. Capterra notes it "may be less practical for smaller teams" given its customer-success gating.

Pricing

Quote-only, with a €6,000 annual contract floor for customer success and a Vendr median around $21,500. Leapsome once published "$8 per user per month" and removed it by 2025, so dead numbers still circulate on third-party sites.

Anonymity

No platform floor. The vendor recommends 3, but it is a per-survey admin number and the documentation explicitly advises going lower for small teams. The best scores in the batch sit on the weakest privacy default.

What users say

Praised

  • breadth, polish, and strong feature coverage across performance and engagement.

Watch out for

  • no named AI model or training commitment, EU-and-US processing with no region choice, and a weak anonymity default.
  • Rated 4.8 on G2 (2,590 reviews), the highest rating and highest engagement feature score here.

vs Sageo: Leapsome is broader; Sageo is deeper on culture-first performance and stricter on privacy by design. If a works council or a European buyer will scrutinise anonymity and data residency, that is exactly where Sageo's PII-stripping and human-in-the-loop design tell.

15Five

15Five is a continuous performance-and-engagement tool built on positive psychology, best known for its lightweight weekly check-in. Its $4 Engage plan is one of the lowest published prices here, but it is a much thinner plan than the brand implies, and its pricing page contradicts itself in places.

Key features

Weekly check-ins that surface morale dips and blockers early

Engagement surveys, High Fives peer recognition, structured 1:1s and OKRs

360s, calibration and a Predictive Impact Model for engagement

AI review and coaching features (though the AI sub-processor is never publicly named)

Best for

SMB and mid-market teams (about 30% of its base is under 50) that want to build manager habits and a weekly feedback rhythm alongside surveys.

Pricing

Transparent tiers: $4 Engage, $11 Perform, $16 Total Platform per seat, with a Vendr median around $25,650. The cheap Engage plan excludes the weekly check-in, action planning and people analytics that make 15Five 15Five.

Anonymity

Default 5, floor 3, and admins can change it (though not during an active campaign). The catch: lifecycle surveys have no threshold at all, which is easy to miss.

What users say

Praised

  • the weekly check-in cadence and manager coaching.

Watch out for

  • the thin Engage plan, a self-contradictory pricing page, and the unnamed AI sub-processor.
  • Rated 4.6 on G2 (1,927 reviews), with an Employee Engagement feature score of 8.7.

vs Sageo: Both serve the same 10-to-1,000 buyer. 15Five's edge is the weekly rhythm; Sageo's is generating the competency framework from your culture and running calibration on top, with stricter AI governance. Quote the like-for-like tier: at 100 people, 15Five Total Platform is roughly $19,200 a year against Sageo's €7,200.

WorkTango

WorkTango sells both recognition and surveys, but the market reviews it almost entirely for recognition, and it was just acquired by BI WORLDWIDE for its rewards fulfilment. Its survey product is capable, but its most notable trait is a movable anonymity threshold: it will lower the minimum group size to a single respondent if you ask a consultant.

Key features

Engagement and lifecycle surveys with AI comment summaries

A full recognition-and-rewards platform (the product most of its reviews discuss)

AI on Google Gemini, with a genuine no-training stance, contractual bars on vendor training, and a real off-switch

Strong AI governance overall, second only to Lattice in this batch

Best for

Mid-market and enterprise teams that want recognition and surveys from one vendor, and that are comfortable with US-only hosting.

Pricing

Quote-only, based on headcount, with a Vendr median around $20,000. No public tiers.

Anonymity

Default 5, but lowerable to 1 on request via a vendor consultant. A default that a support ticket can override is not a floor employees can trust.

What users say

Praised

  • recognition experience and rewards fulfilment.

Watch out for

  • surveys are the quieter half of the product, US-only hosting with a lapsed Privacy Shield citation, and a threshold that moves on request.
  • Rated 4.7 on G2 (1,329 reviews), but the review base is dominated by recognition: top pros are Recognition, Appreciation and Peer Recognition.

vs Sageo: Low overlap. WorkTango is really a recognition platform; Sageo is a performance platform. If recognition is the goal, WorkTango is a fit; if the goal is calibrated reviews and a competency framework, it is not.

Workleap Officevibe

Officevibe, now the engagement core of the broader Workleap platform, is the small-team option with two genuinely distinctive traits: flat published pricing, and the only immovable anonymity floor in this entire market. It is a low-friction pulse tool that has grown a fuller suite around it, though it still lacks an exit survey and marks action plans as "coming soon."

Key features

Automated low-friction pulse surveys designed to avoid fatigue

Anonymous feedback channels between managers and employees

A Workleap AI agent on Azure AI Foundry, with three free AI uses per person per month

Good Vibes peer praise, plus newer 1:1s, goals and reviews

Best for

Small teams up to about 250 that want a simple, predictable pulse tool and care about a rock-solid anonymity guarantee. The flat fee is expensive per head below roughly 75 people.

Pricing

Flat annual tiers: $4,999 Standard and $11,999 Pro, regardless of headcount, with a Vendr median around $11,900. At 100 people the Standard tier is about $4.17 per person per month.

Anonymity

A hard 3 for scores and a hard 5 for free text, with no documented admin override anywhere. It is the only vendor here whose floor nobody can move, which is the strongest trust guarantee in the batch.

What users say

Praised

  • automated pulse delivery, strong anonymous feedback, and the immovable threshold.

Watch out for

  • lower ratings and support scores than peers, no exit survey, action plans still "coming soon," and a flat fee that stings small teams.
  • Rated 4.3 on G2 (1,090 reviews), the lowest of the listening peers, with an Employee Engagement score of 8.2.

vs Sageo: Different jobs. Officevibe is a pulse-survey tool; Sageo is a performance platform. Officevibe's immovable floor is the one survey-privacy idea worth borrowing, and it is the model Sageo would follow if it ever shipped listening.

SurveyMonkey Enterprise

SurveyMonkey shows you what a survey costs when it is only a survey. It is a general-purpose survey builder with employee templates on top, priced per creator rather than per employee. It does not appear in G2's Employee Engagement category, has no benchmarks, no driver analysis, and no action planning, and it has no anonymity threshold anywhere in the product.

Key features

A best-in-class general survey builder with employee-survey templates

Analyze with AI, plus a ChatGPT plugin and an Anthropic integration

Enterprise data residency options (Ireland, Canada, US) on the Enterprise tier only

Priced per creator, which makes it look far cheaper than per-employee tools but is not a like-for-like comparison

Best for

Teams that need a flexible survey tool for occasional or ad hoc surveys, and that will handle employee-experience rigour themselves.

Pricing

$30 per user per month for Team Advantage, priced per survey creator, with a Vendr median around $16,400. Cheap for a few creators, not designed as a per-employee EX platform.

Anonymity

None anywhere in the product. SurveyMonkey advises the customer to enforce anonymity manually, which is the weakest position in this guide.

What users say

Praised

  • ease of use and flexibility for building any survey quickly.

Watch out for

  • no benchmarks, no drivers, no action planning, no anonymity floor, and marketing that it trains its own models on platform data.
  • Rated 4.4 on G2 (24,028 reviews), but for the general survey tool, not an EX product, and with no Employee Engagement category score.

vs Sageo: No overlap. SurveyMonkey is a survey builder; Sageo is a performance platform. If you only need to send a survey, it works; if you need to act on people data with governance, it is not the tool.

Sogolytics

Sogolytics is a survey platform with an employee-experience layer (SogoEX) bolted on, not a purpose-built EX product. It is inexpensive and capable as a survey tool, but it has no employee benchmark, no documented anonymity threshold, and US-only hosting, which rules it out for many European and Indian buyers before features even come up.

Key features

A solid general survey and feedback platform with an EX module on top

Text Analysis for open comments, though it is enterprise-gated and metered

Lifecycle and pulse survey templates

Best for

Small businesses (about half its reviewers are small business) that want an affordable survey tool and do not need benchmarks or enterprise governance.

Pricing

$66 a month for the survey tool; SogoEX, the employee-experience layer, is quote-only. Vendr median around $14,900.

Anonymity

None documented, and no threshold to lower. As with SurveyMonkey, anonymity is left to the customer.

What users say

Praised

  • value for money and responsive support (G2 support score 9.5).

Watch out for

  • no employee benchmark, no anonymity threshold, no documented action planning, and US-only data residency.
  • Rated 4.6 on G2 (87 reviews), with no Employee Engagement category score.

vs Sageo: No overlap. Sogolytics is a budget survey platform; Sageo is a performance layer. For a European or Indian buyer, Sogolytics' US-only hosting is often the end of the conversation.

6. How much does employee survey software cost?

Four pricing patterns dominate, and the cheapest sticker is rarely the cheapest deal.

Per-employee seat
Lattice ($4 Engagement), 15Five ($4 to $16), Culture Amp (quote, ~$9 to $14). Scales linearly with headcount; watch the minimums.
Flat annual platform fee
Workleap Officevibe ($4,999 to $11,999) regardless of headcount. Predictable, but expensive per head for small teams.
Per survey creator
SurveyMonkey ($30 per creator), Sogolytics ($66/mo). Looks far cheaper, but it is not an employee-experience platform and there is no per-employee governance.
Enterprise, quote-only
Qualtrics, Perceptyx, WorkTango, Culture Amp and Leapsome publish nothing. Perceptyx has no pricing page at all. Expect a headcount-based quote and, for the enterprise tools, months of implementation.
Hidden cost 1: minimums and floors
Lattice's $4,000/yr, Leapsome's €6,000 customer-success floor, Officevibe's $4,999 platform fee. Below a certain size these floors are your real price.
Hidden cost 2: the analysis upsell
The measurement-to-action layer is often extra. Qualtrics sells analysis features as an upsell; Officevibe still marks action plans 'coming soon'; SurveyMonkey and Sogolytics have no action planning at all.

7. What should you ask before you buy?

  • What is the minimum group size before results show, is it hard-coded, and can an admin lower it, even mid-survey? This is the question that decides whether people tell you the truth.
  • How big is the benchmark, in organisations, not just responses? A published organisation count separates a real benchmark from a marketing number.
  • Which AI model powers this, and do you train your own models on our data? Get the no-training commitment in writing.
  • Where is our data hosted, and is EU (or in-region) residency available? Several vendors here are US-only.
  • Is there action planning built in, or does the survey just produce a score? The measurement-to-action gap is the industry's admitted weak spot.
  • Is this the all-in price at our real headcount, including any minimum, platform floor, or analysis add-on?
  • For per-creator tools: how does the price compare per employee once everyone needs to be surveyed?

8. Where does Sageo fit?

Sageo is not a survey tool, so if you need anonymous sentiment measurement or a benchmark score, buy one of the vendors above. Sageo is the culture-first performance layer that a survey usually points to: it turns your company values into a competency framework and runs calibrated reviews, monthly 1:1s and development plans, plus attributed recognition and feedback tagged to your values.

When Sageo is the real answer: when the survey result you are worried about is really about unclear expectations, inconsistent managers, or reviews nobody trusts. A pulse survey can tell you engagement is down; it cannot tell an employee what good looks like at their level or give their manager a plan. Sageo does both, continuously, in the 1:1.

The graduation risk, named honestly

As a Sageo customer grows past a few hundred people, someone will pitch them Culture Amp, Lattice or Leapsome, and the survey module will be the reason. We would rather say that plainly: run a listening tool for measurement and Sageo for performance. They are complementary layers. The one survey idea worth insisting on, from any vendor you pick, is an immovable, published anonymity floor, because Officevibe is the only one that offers it.

9. How was this guide researched?

Compiled in September 2026 from vendor pricing, help and trust pages, G2 listings and comparison pages (benchmarked against Culture Amp), and third-party procurement data (Vendr medians, which are whole-vendor deal data, not survey-module list prices). G2 Employee Engagement feature scores are the closest apples-to-apples measure of the survey product and are cited with their rating counts. Anonymity thresholds and AI policies come from each vendor's own documentation. Ratings and prices change over time and quote-only figures are estimates, so confirm any number before you budget or sign. Review pools polluted by mergers were checked for listing identity. Frequently asked questions

What is the best employee survey software?

It depends on size. For a serious listening programme at 1,000+ people, Qualtrics (widest platform, largest benchmark) or Perceptyx (deepest people science). For 100 to 1,000, Leapsome scores highest on engagement features and Lattice is the most transparent on price and anonymity, while Culture Amp remains the reference brand. For small teams, Workleap Officevibe on flat pricing. If you only need a survey builder, SurveyMonkey or Sogolytics.

How many responses are needed before survey results are anonymous?

It varies by vendor and it is the most important thing to check. Published hard floors: Workleap Officevibe (3 for scores, 5 for free text, immovable), Perceptyx (4), Lattice (3, though an admin can change the working threshold). Default-5-but-movable: 15Five, WorkTango (lowerable to 1 on request), Qualtrics (can be switched off entirely). No floor at all: Culture Amp and Leapsome (customer-set), SurveyMonkey and Sogolytics (none). A minimum of 5 is the common safe default.

How much does employee survey software cost?

Per-seat tools run about $4 to $16 per employee per month (Lattice, 15Five, and Culture Amp's estimated $9 to $14). Workleap Officevibe is a flat $4,999 to $11,999 a year. SurveyMonkey and Sogolytics price per survey creator ($30 and $66 a month), which looks cheaper but is not a per-employee platform. Enterprise tools (Qualtrics, Perceptyx, WorkTango) are quote-only on headcount, and Perceptyx publishes no price at all. Watch for minimums, platform floors, and analysis features sold as upsells.

Does Sageo do employee surveys?

No. Sageo is a culture-first performance platform, not a survey or listening tool: it has no engagement surveys, benchmarks, driver analysis, or sentiment scoring. What it does is the layer a survey points to: it turns your values into a competency framework and runs calibrated 360 reviews, monthly 1:1s and development plans, plus attributed recognition and feedback. Many teams run a listening tool for measurement and Sageo for performance.

What should I check before buying survey software?

The anonymity threshold and whether it can be moved; the benchmark size in organisations, not just responses; the AI model and whether the vendor trains its own models on your data; data residency (several vendors are US-only); whether action planning is built in or the survey just produces a score; and the all-in price at your real headcount including any minimum or floor.
